Graham Higson: writer

About me

With over 25 years' experience of writing professionally, I now have an MA degree in Professional Writing from UCF.

Graham Higson My previous experience includes freelance journalism when I interviewed famous TV and music celebrities such as Esther Rantzen, Noel Edmonds, Gilbert O'Sullivan and others too numerous to mention. One of my subjects, Jimmy Savile OBE, insisted thar he check my article for factual errors before it had been published. Here is his reply. It is one of my claims to fame that during this colourful encounter I was actually fixed by Jim. But that's another story.

For 10 years I had my own magazine page – a fictional diary based on a hardwareman's view of the world from behind a shop counter. For the same publisher I still write specialist technical articles. These commissions show my ability to work within a professional context, adhere to strict word-counts, adopt appropriate styles to suit different disciplines and writing formats, and to deliver material to tight deadlines.

I am project manager for a TV production company Filming a theatrical production that makes corporate videos, short and full-length documentaries, Flash presentations for websites and we also film material for people such as the British Shakespeare Company and the Open University. We film to broadcast-quality standard in widescreen and High Definition, providing me with some experience of working within the media industry.

For my MA project I wrote 2 x 60-minute scripts that formed a feature-length historical drama, although other full-length projects that show my ability to write in other genres are also in preparation. These include a 'Good writing is rewriting' Truman Capote60-minute romantic comedy, a 30-minute pilot episode for a series, and some shorts that would fit slots between 5 and 30 minutes. One of these, The Trap, has recently been rewritten and entered for a competition, so has had to be removed from this site. Another 60-minute comedy drama dealing with an environmental issue was shortlisted for the Nick Darke Award 2011.

I am available for pitching ideas, writing story outlines, scripts and work for established series. Please take a look at my portfolio where items will be added as they become available – and contact me for further information.
